CLASSIC CAMPS - CHESAPEAKE WEEK

July 20-26, 2008

A Classic Camp Week On Land And Water
For middle and younger teens at Camp Appanoose!

Chesapeake' an Algonquian word for 'country on the great waters' fits Camp Appanoose's unique location at the heart of Iowa's Ocean, Lake Rathbun. With 155 Miles of shoreline and 11,000 acres of water, the lake provides an ocean of fun activities, such as sailing, canoeing, kayaking, and maybe even tubing or skiing. Specialized training in canoeing and sailing (separate option) will enable you to learn the basics in these classic water sports. You may choose between an overnight sailing or canoe trip to Rolling Cove. It will be great fun as we canoe or sail along the shore of Lake Rathbun, roast hot dogs over an open fire, and sleep out in tents or under the stars, while listening to the waves come in. Your favorite land activities, such as horseback riding, group games, even Capture The Flag will be included to make this camp a true " classic" experience. Interactive Bible Study in your small group will give you the opportunity to explore the story of Abraham in the Bible, a man whose dynamic life contains points with which we may all connect. Every evening we gather for praise and worship and a challenge by
our camp pastor.
As a participant in the Chesapeake Week, you will be part of a small group led by a college age counselor. Water activities include a certified life guard(s) and staff members have had basic first aid training. Great camp food and a comfortable bunk will help you feel right at home.

Other camp options during the week include Aviation Camp, Horse Camp III. Some activities will be shared with those in the other programs on grounds for the week.
