Sugar Creek Horse Camps


Sugar Creek Horse Camps at Camp Appanoose offer training in horsemanship in a beautiful camp setting. Riding instruction by qualified trainers will challenge each participant to improve their skills while enjoying a week devoted to horses. ‘Hands on’ clinics in the following areas will prove to be both informative and enjoyable:

Trail riding is always a highlight at Camp Appanoose. In addition, camp participants will enjoy gaming activities in the camp’s arena. Skill will be developed in the use of a lariat. Leather crafts are included along with a special Cowboy Cookout.

Horse Camp Dates


Horse Camp I  - June 15-21, 2008

For girls who are entering the fourth, fifth or the sixth grades. Camp runs concurrent with Buckskinner I, and will share some of the activities of the Buckskinner campers.


Horse Camp II  - June 22-28, 2008

For guys who are entering the fourth, fifth, or sixth grades. Camp runs concurrent with Buckskinner II, and will share some of the activities of the Buckskinner campers.


Horse Camp III - July 13-19, 2008

For young teens and pre-teens, ages 10-14, some activities will be shared with the All Sport


Horse Camp IV - July 20-26, 2008


For teens in the seventh through the twelfth grades. Horse Camp IV runs concurrent with the Chesapeake Week and Aviation Camp programs. Meals, Bible Talk Time, and some activities will be shared.

Clinicians and instructors include: Jon Watsabaugh, owner of Wolf Creek Saddles; Ted and Sue Williams, owners of T&S Horseshoeing.
In addition to personal items, each rider will need jeans, light long-sleeved shirts, hard-soled shoes or boots, bandana and gloves. Campers will be lodged in the Prairie Bunkhouses this summer.
